Who can benefit from isokinetic testing / exercise?
Subjects with hamstring / quadriceps strength imbalance. This is particularly common in sports such as association football or GAA and can predispose to a range of lower limb injuries, including chronic hamstring strains. Isokinetic testing can highlight the extent of the imbalance, and even identify the exact angle at which the weakness lies. This valid and reliable diagnostic information provides an invaluable baseline measurement of a subjects strength and can accurately guide further rehabilitation. Note: Most sports involve high velocity movements and subjects must rehabilitate accordingly. Isokinetic machines allow for presetting of specific angular velocities, thereby in both these examples, subjects could rehabilitate and train at very high speeds. Can everyone participate in isokinetic testing / training? NO! There are a few medical conditions that might prevent the participation of isokinetic testing and / or rehabilitation. • A joint restricted by inflammation, pain or contr
