Who can benefit from cardiac rehabilitation?
• Recent Heart Attack (within past 12 months) • Coronary artery disease • Angina • Recent open-heart surgery (within past 12 months) • Hypertension (high blood pressure) • Recent balloon angioplastyOther patients who may benefit from cardiac rehab include those experiencing: • Chronic Heart Failure • Various circulation disorders • Congenital heart disease (a disease or heart defect present since birth)
Genesis Cardiac Rehabilitation Phased III/IV is a maintenance based exercise and education program for those who have completed Cardiac Rehabilitation Phase I and II following a cardiac event or procedure. Spouses are encouraged to attend. In addition, the program is an excellent preventive program for those individuals who either have heart disease or are at risk for developing heart disease. The American Heart Association has identified the following as risk factors: smoking, high blood pressure, elevated blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels, heredity, obesity, diabetes, stress, and lack of regular exercise. Physician referral is required for admission to the phase III/IV program. Genesis’ professionally trained staff supervises the Phase III/IV participants. Participants are trained to monitor and report his/her own pulse rate during their exercise session.
