Who can apply to CAIS?
An individual (partners in a partnership participate as individuals) or entity is eligible to participate in the CAIS program if, in the program year, the producer: • carried on the business of farming in Canada and reported farming income (or loss) for income tax purposes • completed a minimum of six months of consecutive farming activity • completed (or attempted) a production cycle. A Status Indian farming on a reserve who does not file returns for income tax purposes is eligible to participate providing that he/she can supply the equivalent information.
