Who Can Adopt Foreign-Born Children?
Bay Area Adoption Services (BAAS) does not discriminate on the basis of age, marital status, family size, income, race, religion, or ethnic background against any person wishing to parent a foreign-born child. Both single parent and married couples can be eligible to adopt. Each adoption application is considered on an individual basis. We do only cooperative placements. This means that BAY AREA ADOPTION SERVICES does not have custody of the adoptable children. Rather, we assist adopting parents, who have been married for at least one year if married or who are single, in meeting local and foreign requirements for adoption. The ultimate selection of a family for a specific child, therefore, is the responsibility of that child’s agency/agent. What Laws Govern Adoption of Foreign-Born Children?
