Who came up with the method of graphology?
Socrates declared, “you can know a man by his mark” more than 2,000 years ago. The subject was studied and written about as early as 1611. Prospero Aldorisio’s 1611 manuscript is probably the first book to describe how to analyze handwriting. The major contender is Camilo Baldi’s manuscript which was unofficially published in 1622. The 1625 edition was probably the first authorized edition of Baldi’s book. However it was Jean Hippolyte Michon who actually systematized handwriting analysis by associating hundreds of graphic signs with specific personality traits. ____________________________________________________________________________ A group of French clergy examined the possible relationship between handwriting and personality. Amongst this group was a cleric by the name of the Abbé Flandrin. He, in turn, taught the Abbé Jean Ilippolyte Michon. Jean Hippolyte Michon not only coined the name ’graphology’ but conducted a great deal of research in the field. He published a book in Pa
