Who Blows The Final Trumpet?
We know of a couple authors who emphasize that it is God who blows the trumpet of I Thessalonians 4 whereas the seventh trumpet is blown by an angel. As a result, they say, this cannot be the same event—to believe so would be to embrace a contradiction. If this is indeed what the text clearly stated, we would agree and would give up this Final Trumpet position. Fact is, there are a couple ways to consider the meaning of this text—both views affirming commitment to the Word of God being authoritative for faith and practice and both committed to a simple reading of the text. The text means what it says! We would encourage you to read the passages involved. Many have no problem understanding the “trumpet of God” to mean a genitival use of the phrase: “God’s trumpet,” one that does not require God to be the one who blows it.
