Andy Murray’s adoration for Agassi during the Las Vegan’s tennis punk years was such that he used to wear a baseball cap with a fake ponytail attached to the back, and once waited for hours at Wimbledon in an unsuccessful attempt to get his autograph. Murray would be forgiven for feeling a bit differently about Agassi now, after the admission in his autobiography, ‘Open’, that he took crystal meth, with the resulting high propelling him on a cleaning binge of dusting the furniture, scouring the tub and making the beds. To all the labels that have been applied to Agassi over the years, such as icon, maverick, punk, sage and Wimbledon champion, we can now add a couple more: meth-user and liar.
