Steady jobs + Good health care + Decent retirement income. That is what we Americans used to believe everybody deserved. And we assumed the USA and the whole world would be there by now. These are not bad goals. Not to be snarked at. Honest to goodness, in 1960, we all believed these problems would be solved by now, and we would be dealing with important problems, such as fusion and such. Nasty divisions into poverty and opulence were supposed to be moot by now. And we could have done it. But we did not do it. Shame on us. Where is my flying car?
