Who becomes a JVC Summer Programme volunteer?
The volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds, both from Britain and other countries. Past volunteers have included joiners, computer programmes, school leavers, recent graduates, nurses, youth workers, full-time carers etc. Many come straight from school or college, whilst others are recent graduates looking for practical work experience. Although JVC has its roots in the Catholic church, the volunteers are from a variety of Christian backgrounds or are just interested in exploring an active spirituality within a Christian context. JVC operates an equal opportunities policy. Where do volunteers work? Jesuit volunteers do full-time voluntary work (35-40 hours per week) and are placed in projects such as drop-in centres, agencies working with children who have learning difficulties or physical disabilities, play-schemes for disadvantaged children and community centres or cafes.
