Who baptized the apostles?
The scripture does not provide an answer to this question. It does provide information that enables a reasonable assumption. The evidence is the same as that relating to the thief on the cross which is discussed in response to Question 122 to which you are referred. That leads to the conclusion that John most likely baptized Christ’s disciples. It could be that John baptized one or two of them and they baptized the remainder. The thing to remember is that this conclusion is an assumption based upon Biblical evidence, and not a direct statement from scripture. All we know for certain is that John came to make ready a people prepared for the Lord (Luke 1:17). The event for which they were prepared cannot be the birth of Christ because John was not preaching before Jesus was born. When John did preach, he preached the necessity of repentance because of the nearness of the coming kingdom (Matthew 3:2), and the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins (Mark 1:4).
