Who attends APHs annual conference and why?
Anybody can attend the conference, but most who attend also join the organization (there is an economic incentive to do so). APH members tend to share two qualities: curiosity and a love of storytelling. This makes any APH gathering just plain fun, but the conference also provides a rich learning experience, with education and shop talk going on both in formal workshops and in the hallways and breaks between sessions. Over and over we hear, Ive never met a group so generous about sharing trade secrets. New and emerging personal historians learn about the competencies essential for producing personal histories, including research, interviewing techniques, appropriate technologies, writing and editing, videography, audio and video editing and production, and print production.
