In my case the UHM’s study abroad program arranged the travel & visas. All the exchange students from the USA going to Konan University in Japan were arranged through a travel agent that coordinated the flights and ground transportation in Japan to the University. The University also arranged for hotel stays prior to meeting our home-stay families. You do have the option to arrange your own travel plans if you choose. Of course, group arrangements help ease travel plans and the transition.
