Who are the top celebrities that women follow for fashion trends?
Add the Kardashians and Gaga to Lisa Borodkin’s list. (And I would caveat the list by saying these might be aspirational and inspiration more than literal trend setters that translate to mainstream fashion.) Add a “mid-tier” list of other influencers: Zoe Saldana, Cameron Diaz, Gwen Stefani, SJP, Rachel Zoe, Katie Holmes, and Sofia Vergara. And for celebs that influence the next generation add: Lauren Conrad, Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, and Justin Bieber. Answering this made me realize it is sort of a slow moment in terms of women looking to celebrities to set fashion trends. In the past, if Jessica Simpson wore a pair of fold over waist culottes then every store was soon stocking them. Whatever Rachel Zoe put on Nicole Ritchie, Mischa Barton and Lindsay Lohan made headlines and influenced what real woman on the street wearing. Or even further back when Madonna brought black jelly bracelets, cut off lace tops and fingerless gloves to mainstream.
