WHO ARE THE SEMINOLE?
The Seminole are Creek Indians who moved into Florida from Georgia and Alabama, escaping European pressures. They began to occupy the spaces once inhabited by the Timucua, Calusa, and other early native groups. The name Seminole probably came from the Spanish word cimarrone meaning Indian living away from a mission.
