Who are the Naxi?
The Naxi are one of Chinas 55 official minority ethnic groups, numbering around 300,000 and located primarily in Lijiang County. They are descended from the Qiang minority and migrated as much as 1200 years ago from northwestern China into what is now Lijiang. They have their own minority language, known locally as Naxi Hua, and their own traditional music, ethnic customs and religion.
