Who are the most notable “New South African” artists?
Yes, nice question, I used to ask the same myself… There are so many new south african artists websites that it’s difficult sorting through the lot to try and find out who is doing what. If I can give you a big tip I would mention the Everard Read gallery located on the perimeter of the V&A waterfront (Green Point side). Out of all the galleries, they definitely seem to have their finger on the new artists around SA. They offer those who they think have potential exclusive contracts with the gallery (the merits of “going with one gallery” are to be debated under another question). They then put a big effort into marketing the artists and ultimately selling as much of their art as possible So needless to say they work with the new South African artists who sell.
