We receive a lot of development aid from the Dutch. In terms of private investors, the bauxite companies invest heavily. At this moment BHPBiliton is investing heavily in the West of Suriname. Also Rosebel Newmont invests in the gold mine sector and Repsol in the oil sector. Up and until now there are no major investors. Many companies are still exploring. There are actually no major American investors but Alcoa. The Caribean is seen as the backyard of the United States, so they should better hurry up.
