Who are the Japanese? When and why did they come to the United States and Utah?
Students will learn about the role of the Japanese in the United States and Utah. Students will learn about the migration of Japanese to America in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. • Once Upon A Castle Students will learn about the castles in Japan, how and why they were built, and in particular, the history of Matsumoto Castle. • Who’s In Charge? Students will compare and contrast the governments of Japan and the United States. • Kanji, Kanji Students will learn and experience some of the Japanese writing systems in comparison to writing in English. • School Daze Students will learn about the difference between Japanese schools and their own experiences in school. • Haiku Students will be introduced to the Japanese poetry form known as haiku and experiment with writing some haiku themselves. • Poke What?
