His 33 years of military service included stints as an operations officer in Somalia, commanding general of the Army Infantry Center and training officer at the Training and Doctrine Command. Called the “Father of the Iraq Army,” the two-star general oversaw the training of Iraqi soldiers in 2003 and 2004, and bluntly spoke with the press about the situation.
