Mark, Matthew and Luke also spoke of false prophets. In each case, the “false prophets” seem to have been those whose theology differed strongly from that of the evangelists. Luke mentioned one by name, “Bar-jesus” (Acts 13:6). It seems likely that Bar-jesus never really existed, but that he represented Gnostic Christians in Luke’s polemic.
