Who are the directors?
Corey and Justin Dockswell are Camp Wicosuta’s directors. With 25 years of combined camp experience and extensive backgrounds in education and social work, Corey and Justin know what it takes to create a safe, supportive and fun environment for your daughter. Both Corey and Justin attended overnight camps from the age of 8 and spent many summers thereafter as campers and counselors at their respective camps. Corey received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Emory University and a Master of Social Work from New York University. She joined Wicosuta as Assistant Director in 2006. Prior to that, she worked at a resident camp and spent three years as the Director of Special Programs for the American Camp Association’s New York Section. Justin received both his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and his Masters in Education from the University at Buffalo. He served as the Assistant Director at Wicosuta and, prior to that, worked for five years as Assistant Director and Boys H
Jay and Mark Toporoff are the Directors of Danbee. The Toporoffs are educators and have years of experience working with children and young adults. Jay and Mark have an extensive background in camping. They were former campers, counselors, and key staff members at one of Danbee’s brother camps. They devote their time and energy year-round to planning and implementing programs for each summer. Danbee’s directors are actively involved in both the American Camping Association and the Western Massachusetts Camping Association.
Winaukee is directed by Bart Sobel and Jeff “Freedo” Freedman, both of whom have a long history in camping and a passion for working with children.Bart Sobel continues a family tradition established in 1934 by his father “Doc” Sobel. Bart grew up at Winaukee as a camper and staff member. In 1981, he succeeded his father as a year-round director of Camp Winaukee. Previously, Bart was a Professor of Education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, specializing in educational philosophy.Jeff Freedman, known affectionately as “Freedo”, directs the Island Camp and is responsible for staff recruitment. Freedo was a longtime camper at Winaukee and received the “All Around Camper Award” in 1979. He was a collegiate NCAA All-American athlete. Before joining the Winaukee team in 1999 “Freedo” worked as a lawyer for the NCAA.
