Who are the children that are placed through Lilliput’s foster care and adoption program?
More than 60,000 children were in foster care in California in October 2009 due to substantiated abuse or neglect allegations. Less than one third of these children were actually reunified in that calendar year. Two thirds remained in foster care, waiting for permanent families. Lilliput specializes in “concurrent planning,” as well as domestic “special needs adoptions.” The children are referred to Lilliput from county and state social service agencies throughout California. Most of the children have been removed from their birth families due to abuse or neglect, often resulting from substance abuse, domestic violence or mental health issues on the part of the birth parents. Children range in age from infancy to 18; however, most of the children placed by Lilliput are between the ages of 1 and 8. Lilliput encourages the placement of siblings with the same family. Lilliput recognizes that all of the children we place are in need of highly capable and nurturing families. Lilliput social
