Who are the best illustrators publishing between 1885 and 1915?
I love illlustration. So many artists come to mind. Randolph Caldecott popped into my head first. He barely fits the criterion. Aubrey Beardsley was wonderful, so many illustrations in such a short life. Maxfield Parrish was great, his use of color was amazing. There is a shade of blue that I see often at sunset that I call “Parrish Blue”. Beatrix Potter was a great illustrator, although she is probably remembered more for the stories that she wrote, rather than her delicate pictures. Arthur Rackham is another of my favorites. When ever I find a book illustrated by him, I’ll buy it, even if I already have a different copy. N. C. Wyeth, founding father of the Wyeth’s, probably largely overlooked now days, but a great illustrator. The styles of these artist is largely representational, due to the era that they were working. Beardsley was a master of Art Nouveau, in my opinon, one of the best. Caldecott is so respected that there is the annual award in his name to the best picture books p
