Who are the actors who will be playing the three stooges in a new version?
A film about the Three Stooges, simply titled The Three Stooges, is scheduled to be released in 2010. The Farrelly Brothers are still attached to the project, even though their Warner Bros. deal to write and direct the film has expired. First Look Studios, working with C3 Entertainment, will distribute the motion picture. The Farrellys have said that they were not going to do a biopic or remake, but instead new Three Stooges episodes set in the present day. The plot of the episodes is said to be an adventure that revolves around the Stooges characters. The film taken to MGM studios will start production in the fall of 2009 to be released in 2010. The studio has set Oscar-winner Sean Penn to play Larry, and negotiations are underway with Jim Carrey to play Curly, with the actor already making plans to gain 50 pounds to approximate the physical dimensions of Jerome “Curly” Howard. They’ve cast two Oscar winners, Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro, (neither known for their comedic chops, at least not lately) as the immortal stooges Moe Howard and Larry Fine. They’ve also cast Jim Carrey as the corpulent Curley Howard. He’s being expected to put on a good forty pounds for the role, a feat that’s more reminiscent of Robert De Niro’s transformation for the film, ‘Raging Bull’, than any comedy. (Fat suits and Jack Black don’t count.) So why are the Farrelly brothers putting so much emphasis on the dramatic side of comedy to make a movie that resurrects the most slapstick team in history?
