Who Are School Social Workers?
They are Social Workers who are licensed by both the Minnesota Board of Social Work and the Department of Children, Families and Learning. They are specially trained to provide services in schools. They help with: School Issues This may include: grades, discipline, learning problems, and relationships with peers. Family Problems This may include: abuse or neglect, divorce or separation, serious illness or death. Community Problems This may include: violence, alcohol, tobacco and other drug use, teen pregnancy, and homelessness. School Social Workers help identify needs—and solutions— before problems get bigger. This process can be done through: Interviewstalking or listening to the child and family members, Observation of the child at home and at school, by assessments or even testing.
