Who are PAs?
– In 1970, 941 individuals registered with the OAB indicating that they were making the majority of their living by providing accounting services. They were issued PA licenses by the OAB without having to pass a professional examination. An advisory board was created to advise the OAB. These PAs were granted the same practice privileges as those given to CPAs and were required to meet the same ethics and education requirements as CPAs. Language was put in the Accountancy Act that allowed individuals from that date forward to become a public accountant by passing 3/4ths of the CPA examination. In 1986 there were 466 licensed PAs. At the request of the OK Society of Public Accountants, now OSA, the advisory board was abolished and the Accountancy Act was changed to add a PA member to the OAB and to give the Society of Public Accountants the right to submit names to the Governor for his consideration of that position’s appointment. The last PA license issued by the OAB was in 2001. Today,
