Who are Optometrists?
Optometrists complete a 4 or 5 year university degree in order to register to practice. They conduct eye and vision examinations, prescribe spectacles and contact lenses and carry out treatment for eye disorders. Optometrists do not perform surgery, but may conduct minor procedures such as removing foreign bodies from the eye, and can recommend or prescribe eye drops to treat eye diseases. Optometrists also have a thorough knowledge of optical appliances: frames, spectacle lens designs and contact lenses.
