WHO ARE GOG AND MAGOG?

Gog and Magog appear a number of times in the Bible. In addition to the above passage, these two are mentioned in Ezekiel 39:1, Ezekiel 39:11, and Revelation 20:8. However their first appearance in the Bible is as actual, living historical individuals. The first appearance of these two figures is in Genesis 10: 2-3. Here we find the descendants of Noah’s sons listed. The children of Japheth are Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Mesech, and Tiras. The Sons of Gomer are Ashkenas, Riphoth, and Togarmah. According to Hebrew tradition (as well as hints in the Bible starting with verse 5 of this chapter), it is assumed that these are the ancestors of those who comprise the Gentile nations including the Chinese, Tartars, Greeks, Persians, Germans, Muscovites, and other Sclavonian races. When Ezekiel writes of Gog and Magog, the offspring of these two individuals are most likely the nations or powers that he’s referring to. Some manuscripts/translations of the Bible also list “Rosh” as a lead
