Who are eligible for claiming an exempted road tax?
Individuals in receipt of the higher rate of the mobility component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA), War Pensioners Mobility Supplement (WPMS) or have an invalid carriage are able to claim an exemption from paying road tax. However, individuals need to apply for an exemption certificate from the agency that issues the qualifying benefit. The exemption certificate can then be used to change the taxation class of a vehicle to ‘DISABLED’ and for a tax disc to be issued to the vehicle showing the tax class as ‘DISABLED’ and ‘NIL’ payment in the fee paid section of the tax disc.
