Who are defined as PIO for the purpose of Acquisition and Transfer of immovable property in India?
As per Regulation 2(c) of FEMA 21, Person of Indian Origin means of citizen of any country other than Bangladesh or Pakistan or Sri Lanka or Afghanistan or China or Iran or Nepal and Bhutan if – a) He/she at any time held Indian passport; or b) He/she or either of his/her parents or any of his/her grand parents were a citizen of India by virtue of the Constitution of India of the Citizenship Act, 1955 (57 of 1955); or c) the person is a spouse of an Indian citizen or person referred to in sub-clause (a) or (b) above.
