Who are courageous women throughout history?
Eleanor Roosevelt- worked to advance human rights and end poverty. She was first lady during President Franklin Roosevelt’s terms. After her husband died, she served as the U.S. delegate to the United Nations. She was one of the top leaders in getting the U.N. to pass the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Victoria Woodhull-first woman to run for president of the U.S. in 1872, long before women recieved the right to vote. Faced with serious opposition, threats were even made on her life. Also ran a newspaper and was the only female stock broker on wall street at the time. I did a presentation on Woodhull. Through researching I discovered many things about her; escaped an abusive relationship with her children and worked in a man’s world. She isn’t well known, which is why I picked her.
