Frederick Carlton Lewis (aka Carl Lewis) were born to Bill and Evelyn Lawler Lewis in 1961. Both Bill and Evelyn were stellar athletes in their own right; Bill played football and ran track. Evelyn was a hurdler, who represented USA at the PanAmerican games. Both attended and competed on behalf of Tuskegee Institute.
