Who are Caldicott Guardians?
Caldicott Guardians are senior staff in the NHS and social services. Their main responsibilities are to oversee how personal health information is used, provide guidance on the use of patient identifiable information, ensure that patients rights to confidentiality are respected and that patient information is kept secure. All NHS organisations are now required to have a Caldicott Guardian. If you are an employee of an NHS Trust or you have an NHS honorary contract, you will be required to follow the Caldicott Principles as laid down by the NHS Executive.
