WHO ARE ADULT LEARNERS AND WHAT DO THEY LEARN?
There is no set “definition” as to who an adult learner is. Adult learners come in many different sizes, shapes, and ages. There have been many demographic studies done to try and decipher who an adult learner is. According to Merriam and Caffarella, demographics are about people, groups of people, and their respective characteristics. It is very interesting to know that for the first time in our society, adults out number youth. This of course means that there is more opportunity for adults to get out and further educate themselves. Johnstone and Rivera came up with their own definition of what they considered to be the “typical adult learner”, it states “The adult education participant is just as often a woman as a man, is typically under forty, has completed high school or more, enjoys an above-average income, works full-time and most often in a white-collar occupation, is married and has children, lives in a urbanized area but more likely in a suburb than large city, and is found i
