Who appoints the Board of Directors for Canadian Blood Services?
The shareholders of the Corporation of Canadian Blood Services, the Provincial and Territorial Ministers of Health, appoint the Board of Directors. Their selections reflect a range of key stakeholders’ interests—scientific, medical, consumers, etc. The Canadian Blood Services Board operates at arm’s length from government. The sole mission of Canadian Blood Services is to ensure a safe, secure, cost effective, affordable and accessible supply of quality blood, blood products and their alternatives. To avoid conflicts of interest, no public servants may serve on the Canadian Blood Services Board.
