Who accepts and rejects manuscripts?
The ultimate decision to accept a manuscript for publication is taken by the associate editor assigned to the review. The associate editor must take into consideration the reviewers’ comments and the authors’ ability to revise the manuscript (if needed) before taking the decision. However, the associate editor is not entitled to reject a manuscript, but only to recommend it for rejection to the specialty chief editor. Thus, the Specialty Chief Editor comes into the review process in problematic cases and will take the final decision on the manuscript.
