White Bumps on the Corner of the Mouth – What Do They Mean?
Almost everyone amongst us at some time or other must have suffered from those annoying white bumps on the corner of the mouth. These lesions are also known as angular stomatitis. It is most commonly caused by nutritional deficiencies involving the Vitamin B complex. There is also a role for infection by bacteria and fungi. In fact the white colour of the lesions is due to these bacteria. I am sure readers of this article will be having many questions about this disorder. I will look to answer two of the primary questions which arise. What is the cause? Angular stomatitis is basically a nutritional disorder with associated bacterial or fungal infection. The integrity of the skin around mouth is maintained by the beneficial actions of many nutrients. Prime amongst them are a group of vitamins known as vit B complex. Deficiency of this vitamin leads to drying of skin. The dry skin is very prone to chaps and cuts. Bacteria and fungi colonize these areas of degraded skin causing symptoms.
