While this is interesting in the mousedoes it reflect what is happening in the CF patient?
Alvarez and Freedman wanted to find out if this ratio of arachidonic acid and DHA is altered in CF patients. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the staff and patients at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center CF Care Center, the investigators found evidence to suggest that tissue samples of CF patients also demonstrated low levels of DHA. The question that clinicians and scientists now want to answer is whether or not supplemental DHA would have the same effect in patients with CF as in the mouse.
