While rival channels had well known faces as anchors also called sub-brands for the channel STAR News had to make do with fresh faces. Has this been a problem?
If you are referring to NDTV, the well known faces are now in the English channel, NDTV 24×7 and they are not our rivals. But if you are talking about the Hindi channel NDTV India, it also had to start with fresh faces. But beyond this, what I feel is that an anchor works only in conjunction with the channel. No matter how powerful or how big is the name and image of the anchor, it always works only with a specified channel. US market is a great example for this, where anchors are extremely powerful and they rarely hop from one channel to another. And there havent been encouraging reports on those who do so. Regarding STAR News starting with fresh faces, I don’t see it as a problem because a new channel has no option than to build its own anchors.
