Which years were the Roman and Byzantium periods?
Before the fall of Rome in the time of Constantine in 330 AD The Roman Empire was split into two The Western and the Eastern Empire. When someone talks of the fall of Rome they refer to the fall of Western Empire in Rome around 476. The Eastern Empire in Constantinople lasted until 1453 when the Ottomans took Constantinople. The downfall of the east began in 1071 with the Battle of Manzikert when much of Asia Minor was lost. In 1204 the forth crusade Constantinople was sacked by the Crusaders for payment to the Venetians who ran the logistics of the fourth crusade.
