Which wound care certification is best?
On One Hand: Bachelor’s Degree and AboveFor those providers with a bachelor or master of science or doctorate in the biological sciences, the Certified Wound Specialist certification, or CWS, is a highly respected certification in wound care and wound management. Earning the CWS credential is evidence of a thorough knowledge of the field due to the rigorous nature of the test.On the Other: Alternative for Other ProvidersThe National Alliance of Wound Care offers its own certification called Wound Care Certified, or WCC. An advantage of this certification is that it has less stringent prerequisites to sit for the credentialing exam. Associate-level practitioners can sit for the exam, as a bachelor’s level degree is not required.Bottom LineFor clinicians such as licensed practical nurses, licensed vocational nurses and physical therapy assistants, the NAWC enables them to certify in wound care.
