Water won’t work on an oil stain at all.(as in the saying – oil and water don’t mix) Looking up toluene, it’s a by product from making petroleum and doesn’t sound too safe to use either. You need something that won’t damage the fabric, try dish washing liquid or hand wash solution for delicate fabrics (such as Woolite). You could even try lava soap, as it is made specifically for mechanics that work around lubricants, to get their hands clean. Oxyclean soak, or clorox 2 are also good for set in stains, but you need to soak the item in them before it is laundered.
