Which will win, Blu-ray or HD DVD?
This was the burning question for many years as HD DVD and Blu-ray duked it out in the marketplace and court of public opinion. The question has been answered, but it’s left here in the FAQ for historical flavor. Before January 2008, no one really knew the answer to this question despite myriad strong opinions. Blu-ray had more consumer companies supporting it, but HD DVD was cheaper and had Microsoft behind it. What made it uncertain was that the Hollywood studios were split roughly 50-50 between the two formats, with Warner Bros. releasing titles for both formats. But on January 4, 2008, Warner completely changed the game when it announced that it would support Blu-ray exclusively after May.
