Only a few major US chains exist in most European countries. The Norwegian city I live in has TGIF, 7-11, Burger King and McDonald’s, but I can’t think of any others. Walmart doesn’t really exist here (except as Asda in the UK), but there are always many local or European chains in major cities. All of these countries have regional chains of grocery stores/cooperatives, restaurants, clothing, etc (UK has the most) so it’s difficult to answer your question. Out of the countries I’ve lived in, UK and Sweden had the most, and Norway probably the least. You’ll find that larger cities tend to have more chains, but also more choice of independent stores.
