which web programming language is most productive for small teams?
It is probably going to depend on the people you hire and the project leaders involved. However, in my experience I have found that PHP is fast to develop in and there is a large base of developers to pull from (along with code that can be used as starting points or even completed components/tools). Java can also be fast to develop once you have skills in place. We have two developers who have picked it up in a manner of weeks and are really enjoying it. It is very powerful and can be used for real business applications. Ruby/Ruby on Rails is very impressive. I know lots of programmers who love working with this and it is very easy and fast to develop prototype projects with (and they are robust prototypes). Computerworld magazine had an article on it a few months back and called it the most important and exciting new programing language/environment in the last 20 years (if I remember the time frame correctly). They were really very positive on it. We are looking at this one very serio
