Which was the better plane the meschmt or the spitfire in terms of technology and speed?
Tech wise, the Messerschmit was – it had a fuel injection engine and in dog fights the Messer pilots could dive – without losing any engine power. They soon found that by doing this, the Spitfire could stall as fuel injection was not an option on the Spitfire and the engine was starved of fuel and so stalled. They managed to get around this by learning to bank sharply before diving. The fuel injection system was put into later Spitfires. In terms of speed the Spitfire was a better plane and it had a better fuel range (pound for pound) and better manouverability – The Luftwaffe hated the Spitfire because it was a better all round plane – and it is often commented, although I cannot verify it, that many of the Luftwaffe heirarchy, commented to Hilter that they wanted planes like the Spitfire.
