Which vinegar to use when making toffee?

I always use Malt vinegar – gives a good taste, good colour and is probably the cheapest to buy. Apple Cider vinegar would be my second choice – this just comes down to personal taste preference. Definitely not balsamic vinegar – can’t imagine what it would do to the taste! White sugar would result in toffee having no colour.
