This gets a little complicated, so bear with me. WebSphere Application Server 5.1.1 was the first release to support 64-bit Linux distributions. The 31-bit WebSphere Application Server will continue to run on 31-bit distributions of Suse Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 8 or Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 3, but the 31-bit WebSphere Application Server application runs only on 64-bit distributions of SLES 9 or RHEL 4. Releases of WebSphere Application Server earlier than 5.1.1 run only as a 31-bit product on 31-bit distributions of SLES 8 or RHEL 3. All releases of WebSphere Application Server 5.0.2 and later run as a 31-bit product on Suse and Red Hat Linux distributions on System z. For SLES 8 or RHEL 3 (2.4 kernels), the 31-bit WebSphere Application Server application runs only on 31-bit levels of these distributions. For SLES 9 or RHEL 4 (2.6 kernels), the 31-bit WebSphere Application Server application runs only on 64-bit levels of these distributions. WebSphere Application Server 6
