Which version of Holy Bible is the easiest to read/understand and why(NIV, NJV …)?
Kids – well, most of my junior high and senior high students have either NIV or NLT. I think the New Living Translation is the one closest to the test in the most current modern language. If a kid asks me, that’s my suggestion. The NLT is what they call a phrase by phrase or an idea by idea translation. The King James and New American Standard are word by word translations. So, I think for students, the NLT would be my choice and suggestion. For adults, well, there are a couple of issues, one of which is which one do they use at the church they go to. For example, my church primarily uses the NIV (readings are in the NIV, stuff during sermons on the board is normally NIV). So it makes sense to use NIV. Fortunately, the NIV is quite readable. I prefer it. Again, like the NLT, it is a phrase by phrase translation, although the phrases are shorter than the NLT so it is closer to the original test.
