Which university in the uk is the best to study english in?
Durham is good, it’s one of the best in the country. For English though I’d personally recommend the University of Warwick. It is a modern and broad-thinking university that has a huge variety of people including lots of international students. In first year you live on campus and then next year you can move to the big town of Coventry or the beautiful smaller town of Leamington Spa. English at Warwick is excellent because there’s a good balance between exams and assessed work (i.e. essays done during the year). There’s also a wide range of modules you can choose from (e.g. Arthurian Literature, the Epic Tradition, Feminist theory, Postcolonial literature, Irish Literature, Seventeenth Century, etc). And the lecturers/seminar tutors are really really good. As well as all that there’s the big advantage that it’s one of the best in the country for English specifically (it’s also one of the best overall) and is intensively academic without taking away your social life.
